On Thursday, Pastor Louinet phoned to let us know that Haiti was bracing for a monstrous storm–Hurricane Irma–as it began battering the small island. High winds and pouring rains drove people to seek shelter wherever it could be found. Pastor Louinet opened the doors of the church and school buildings to house people from the surrounding valley, many of whom live in ramshackle huts or tin-roof shelters. Some reported that their homes were flooded, others that their roof had blown away. All the food that is normally available at the markets was gone. Some said they thought it was the end of the world!
Today, Pastor Louinet called again with relief to say that the fury of Hurricane Irma had passed, and that they are alive and well. There will be damage to repair and crops that may not survive, but no one in his care was hurt.
Please continue to pray for the people in the path of Hurricane Irma. As with Harvey, Irma has the potential to do large scale damage across a wide populated area. Keep Haiti, Cuba, and Florida in your prayers today
