Thank you so much for your commitment to sponsor a child through Hope in Haiti! I never thought I would be writing a monthly update of any kind, but your response to helping these kids in Haiti has been wonderful and is spurring us on to reach more children and spread the hope of Jesus Christ to the poorest of the poor in Haiti.
Please continue to pray, both for your individual child and for the entire ministry of Hope in Haiti as well. Your gifts will help provide children in Kawo and Nawo Haiti with a life changing education. The story below is just one example of the difference your involvement can make.
As most of you know, Haiti is an extremely poor country. The infant mortality rate is about 76 deaths out of every 1,000 births as compared to 7 deaths out of 1,000 birth here is the United States. While we were in Dessalines in March 2007, we met a five-day-old baby boy whose mother had died during childbirth. He was to be taken to an orphanage to be cared for until he could be adopted.
However, he had become ill, and for several days, fought for his life. Sadly, at just 10 days old, he died after having contracted tetanus. If his mother had known to get a tetanus shot, costing about $1.25, during her last month of pregnancy, this beautiful little boy would have survived. Instead, her lack of education in the most basic of necessities resulted in the death of her baby. Our hearts were grieved, but this is reality in Haiti, and that is why your part is so significant.
If you have not yet given your first gift, whether monthly, quarterly or annually, please do so as soon as possible. It is time for us to buy materials and get uniforms made for the children. Pastor Louinet must get shoe sizes and take pant, shirt and dress measurements for many kids! That’s a job in itself!
For the meantime, please make out your checks to Cascade Community Church and on the memo line write Hope in Haiti. You may either give your check to the church or mail it to our post office box listed above. We encourage you to send your checks by the first of each month.
We are called to share the good news of Christ and what better way than to become involved in a child’s life! These children are truly Haiti’s hope. May the blessings be yours as well as theirs.
